The ‘Reading Girl’ statue has been moved to it’s new location!
“Previously in the reception area of the library at the Friary, it is now placed at the chapel in St Mary’s Church, which is the new home to the Library, the St Mary’s performance space and to the Local History service.
“The statue is by the Italian sculptor, Antonio Rossetti, and is officially titled ‘Self-Help: the Reading Girl’. Rossetti produced several versions of this statue, one of which was sold at auction at Christies New York before Christmas.
The statue was gifted to the city of Lichfield by the benefactor Colonel Michael Swinfen-Broun, of Swinfen Hall, in the 1940s and is part of the Lichfield District Council museum collection.”
When following the downloaded map please head to the new library location to see this statue on market square. The City Sculpture Trail will be revised soon to update this new move.
